Well Miss G's time at St Pius X Catholic School has come to an end. She has loved working with all the enthusiastic students helping them with their eLearning.
After having this blog for 6 years it is sad to say goodbye to this, however, it is time for a new chapter in her career.
Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year to all.

Victoria's Squash Writing
“Awesome, this Squash is going to be fun and my first day playing Squash.”
On Monday after morning tea we came to class and then Miss G told us to go and line up outside. When we got to the hall there were two people standing there and their names were Michael and Phil. They were our coaches to tell us how to play Squash. When we played our first game of Squash our coaches Michael and Phil said it was time to go and he and his friend Phil said "we were going to do some more Squash". I wondered what we were doing the next day?
On the Tuesday we had 20 seconds to chose your court and play in the hall. We all started playing and when Michael came past he said we had 30 minutes left and Phil came too and asked who were the highest scores out of our two highest people were Alecia and Christopher. Next we kept on playing Squash until we finished and people kept on moving to the next court but I stayed on the same court.
On Wednesday we had our last game of squash. We played king of the courts so we had to play for about 30 minutes. Phil asked us who were the 2 players who were the World Champians and everyone held their hands up and they told the answer which was Nicol David and Ramy Ashour. When we were finished playing Squash we went back to class and everyone said that they had fun.
It is weird to think that Squash was created in 1830 which is a long time ago in Harrow School which is in England.
My favourite part at Squash was having fun and knowing how to play a new sport. Also I enjoyed playing with my friends and I had a really good time playing Squash.

Rorine's Term 3 Reflection
This term it has been amazing because we have a lot of new students that have come to our school. We are all getting along with each other and also learning new stuff and making new stuff.
We have been learning a lot of new things, like social justice and we have been learning what to do in a lockdown.
In Room 3 we have also been making PINATAS. What I liked most about making pinatas was when you are doing your paper mache, you stick the paper on your balloon with glue and it feels so cold like you are touching a whole block of ice and it feels so goopy.
What I also learnt this term was a little bit of information about China and some new games from a special guest named, Nathan Grey who came for our Duffy Assembly.
Another part of term three, was getting my new books. I have been waiting for my books forever this term. The books I got were ‘The Return of the Vampire’ by Geronimo Stilton and Von Cacklefur and ‘The Secret Garden’ by Frances Hodgson Burnett, which was such a sad story.
What I am looking forward to next term is the Manaiakalani Film Festival because I get to see myself on the Xtreme big screen. I always wanted to be on a film.

Duffy Hero Assembly - Nathan Grey
Today we had our Duffy Assembly and our Duffy hero was a man named Nathan Grey. He was really interesting talking about his 60 day trip walking the Great Wall of China. He can speak many languages and is very clever being both a Lawyer, journalist and author. He was very inspiring and was fascinating to listen too.

Filming Reflection
Last
week our class were starting to make a movie. We got into a group, we
discussed what we were going to do. I was going to be the director, one
of the students were acting as the teacher and the other was acting to
be a teacher aide, there still was four children left and so they played
the students. After that we put it on the storyboard. We made sure that
everyone in our group had a part to play. When it was time to film our
teacher helped us to film it.
I stood from an angle to see. I then thought what is the movie for and it was for the Film Festival where other schools come and watch films from schools that act out movies just like what our class did. When my teacher filmed it we stopped and told her what part we were doing next. After that we were finished. I sat down with my teacher and discussed where the footage will fit in. It worked and we listened to it with some music and it was perfect. The other groups put their movies all together. When it was all done we watched it all and it was amazing.

Today Room 3 began making their South American Pinata's. We blew up balloons and carefully did the first layer of paper mache.

The Feast of St Pius X
St Pius X was born on June 2, 1835. He grew up in a country called Italy. He had 8 brothers and 8 sisters. St Pius. X had a real name and it was Joseph Sarto. Joseph Sarto became a Priest and then a Bishop and then he came to be a Cardinal and then he finished up being a Pope. He wanted everyone to get the Eucharist and to help the poor people. Joseph Sarto died on the 18 August, 1907 and everyone was so sad that he died.

The Assumption of Mary
We celebrate the Assumption because it is Mary’s Heavenly Birthday.
Mary’s Heavenly Birthday is on the fithteen of August. When Mary died
the people couldn’t find her body and her bones so Pope Pius declared to the people that Mary’s body was sent to Heaven.
When she was sent to Heaven she became the Queen of Heaven. When Mary died the people didn’t know where she went.

Badminton
Badminton is a very simple sport but it has a lot of instructions you have to learn before you play.
In Badminton you have 2 ways to hold the racket. They are called the forehand grip and the backhand grip. Badminton is just like tennis but tennis has a bigger ball than Badminton and a different racket. Badminton was one of the events in the 2012 London Olympics, it was founded in the Olympics in 1992. Badminton has been an Olympic sport with 3 events men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles and also mixed doubles.
Badminton was made up in Europe and Asia a long time ago and they used paddles or bats for a racquet. The Shuttle for beginners are made out of plastic and for professionals the shuttle is made out of goose feathers if the shuttle hits you it won’t hurt because it is only a soft item.
Badminton is a very good sport because it is good exercise especially if it is a single match. it is very good for you because you can run around the court. You can hit the shuttle however you like. You can hit it low, high, fast, slow, soft or rough it.
I like Badminton because it is good exercise and it is a simple sport for you to learn.

Week 8 - Melbourne and Learning
On Tuesday on Week 8 at 3:30pm Miss G and Mrs Tui left to go to Melbourne, Australia.
While she was away Room 3 had lots of fun as well but not as much as Miss G. My favorite thing that I did was make my cookie construction with my partner.
By Alecia
While
Miss G was in Melbourne, Australia she had an awesome time. She went
there with 21 other teachers. The reason why Miss G and Mrs Tui
went there was to see how to make our school a modern
learning environment. She
saw huge classrooms there and really cool rooms and stuff. In Melbourne
they don't call them classrooms they called them
Learning Neighborhoods. She visited 8 schools, the names of the schools
she saw were Broadmeadows, Silverton Primary, Berwick Chase, Danderong
High, Hume High, Meadows Primary and Broadmeadow Valley Primary. On her
last day at Melbourne she went to the rugby with some other teachers,
she said that it was about 1 degree. The time she flew back to New
Zealand was 1:30am.
She
also said that she woke up to plenty of sunshine and had heaps of food.
When she came back she bought us some tiny Koala toys.

St Pius Community Mass
Today we had a celebration mass with the school and parish together for 10am mass. It was a wonderful celebration of our partnership and a great way for the parish to be with our school. We commissioned and blessed our Board Of Trustee's too during the mass.
We sang songs of praise and prayed together. We are proud to be part of the St Pius X Catholic Community.
What a wonderful way for us to share being a Catholic school.

Our Identities
This week we have been looking at our Identity during our topic study which is 'Embracing Others' - Social Justice. We need to embrace ourselves before we can embrace others. We used Google Draw to create a presentation of our Identity and used our webcams on our Netbooks to take a picture of ourselves to insert in our Google Draws. Here are a few examples of the students work.
